Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background working for an insurance company or within public accounting supporting insurance clients. This role supports the Director of Finance and leadership team, providing hands-on accounting, financial analysis, and process improvement across insurance and captive entities. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a strong understanding of P&C insurance accounting and the ability to influence financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting and financial reporting for captive and insurance entities, ensuring GAAP and insurance industry compliance.
  • Review and reconcile cession statements, premium activity, and other insurance-related financial transactions to maintain an accurate audit trail.
  • Analyze financial performance for new and existing insurance programs; summarize findings for senior leadership and external clients.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, financial statements, reconciliations, and audit documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance audit readiness, data integrity, and overall accounting efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or Master’s in Accounting strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years specifically in insurance accounting (carrier/agency or insurance-focused public accounting).
  • Deep understanding of P&C insurance accounting concepts such as premiums, commissions, reserves, and holdback percentages.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret and clearly explain financial results to both internal teams and external clients.
  • Proven ability to work independently, think critically, and take initiative in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
